The Project
GenomeMET Work Packages
The GenomeMET project is structured into the following 6 Work Packages:
Develop Reference Material (RM) and EQA material alongside SI-traceable characterisation frameworks to aid genomic RMS development and support EQA schemes.

Develop Reference Measurement Systems (RMS) for validating and ensuring the quality assurance (QA) of genomic profiling IVDs.

Identify main uncertainty drivers in genomic profiling workflows and develop statistical approaches for assessing measurement uncertainty and examination uncertainty in multiparametric genomic profiles.

Facilitating impactful dissemination, communication, and exploitation of project outcomes to standardise and implement genomic biomarker profiling across Europe.

Ensuring effective project management, coordination, and compliance with all regulatory and ethical standards.

Create Reference Measurement Procedures (RMP) and higher-order methods to support the development of genomic RMS.

At the Summer School of Metrology, themed FUTURE NEEDS FOR METROLOGY: CLIMATE SCIENCE, QUANTUM TECHNOLOGIES AND THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION, Dr. Carla Divieto presented the GenomeMET project during her talk on Metrology in medicine and biology: underpinning clinical decisions for patient safety in the session focused on Metrology for the quality of life and climate science. She highlighted the crucial role of metrology in advancing precision medicine and early cancer detection.

We are thrilled to share the insights from the recent ISOBM Conference held in Murnau (Germany). Our partners from the GenomeMET project, Dr. Alison Denvonshire (NML at LGC), Dr. Jenni Farley (GenQA) and Dr. Marcel Kremser (INSTAND) presented compelling perspectives on genomic profiling standardisation strategies and EQA for liquid biopsy showcasing two new schemes.

We are proud to share insights from the IFCC Committee on Molecular Diagnostics (C-MDO) sponsored 3rd International Forum on Clinical Molecular Diagnostics meeting, which took place in a hybrid format in Nanjing, China. Dr. Carole Foy from NML, UK was invited to give a lecture on behalf of the GenomeMET consortium. She highlighted the vital role of establishing standards in cancer genomic profiling, showcasing the GenomeMET's ambitious goals and innovative approaches to ensure reliable and beneficial outcomes for patient care.

From Measurement to Medicine: How GenomeMET Supports Reliable Genomic Testing

The GenomeMET consortium is pleased to share that Dr. Jessica Petiti from INRiM (Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica) presented her research at the EACR 2026 Congress: Innovative Cancer Science in Budapest, Hungary.
GenomeMET Results at EACR 2026
Her work entitled "Metrologically Traceable Quantification of NRAS p.Q61R by Digital PCR," presents a validated dPCR-based method for the accurate quantification of the clinically relevant NRAS p.Q61R mutation, supporting harmonized molecular measurements and reliable biomarker assessment in precision oncology.
We congratulate Dr. Petiti and all contributing partners on this achievement and their valuable contribution to the GenomeMET project.

Call for Participants: Survey on Quantitative Measurements in Bioanalysis
The CCQM Task Group for Terms, Quantities and Units for Bioanalytical Measurement invites participants to complete the following questionnaires about quantitative measurements in:
(1) DNA and RNA analysis using methods such as, but not limited to, qPCR and Next Generation Sequencing;
(2) the analysis of whole entities/cells using methods such as, but not limited to, flow cytometry and cell counting;
(3) protein analysis using methods such as, but not limited to, mass spectrometry and qNMR.

At BIOTECH2026 – Frontiers in Italian Biotechnology in Verona, Aurora Schiavon from University of Torino, presented her latest work on Circulating Tumore Cells (CTC) mutational profiling using Parsortix® enrichment and ddPCR, supporting the development of standardized reference materials for liquid biopsy applications.
How can we improve the reliability and reproducibility of liquid biopsy testing?
Her results highlight the potential of an in-cassette lysis workflow for reliable mutation detection in CTC, contributing to improved analytical standardization for future clinical and research applications.
This work is part of the GenomeMET European project, advancing metrology for genomic profiling in early cancer detection and precision medicine.

GenomeMET partners attended the first EURAMET Summer School on Biochemical Metrology in Kloster Drübeck, Germany, bringing together early-career researchers, metrologists, and experts from across Europe to strengthen the foundations of measurement science in the life sciences.
